What's new? Ha!

Just some things that happened recently:

1. This Is It

This Is It was a planned series of 50 concerts byMichael Jackson to be held at The O2 arena in London. They were scheduled to begin in July 2009 and continue through March 2010. Less than three weeks before the first show was due to begin and with all concerts being sold out,Jackson died after suffering cardiac arrest.

2. Happy

Happy is a person who works as a car washer in a petrol station. He is slightly mentally disabled but in him I saw a giant who is much stronger than so many of us. His colleague, Shayt Face, on the other hand, is normal but a weakling.

Here's the story:

Happy was jumping excitedly when we drove towards the car washing machine while Shayt Face was leaning against the machine, with his arms folded and a shayt face of course.

Happy greeted us with a huge smile :)) while Shayt Face was still leaning against the machine, with his arms folded and a shayt face, still.

Throughout the course of washing, I think 90% of the job was done by Happy but what caught my attention most was the smile on his face. He loves his job.

I believe most of us are leading a much more complete life as compared to Happy's.

But it seems like Happy is leading a much happier life than many of us.

Be contented, yes, important.

But something equally important is the passion for what we are doing.

Happy has the passion for his job.

That's why he always has that smile on him, no matter how tough his job is.

For that, I admire him.

I need to learn from him.

I need to throw that shayt attitude into the bin and pick myself up!

today is a good day because...
- KING TORRES IS BACK! with TWO CRUCIAL GOALS to bring Liverpool BACK to the TITLE RACE! GO LIVERPOOL!

- i sealed my 2nd deal of the year! =)
- several deals are still on going.

it's a bad day because...
- i saw a dead rat (it's not a tiny rat, my cousin said, '那麼大﹖﹗在它旁邊的拖鞋怎麼看起來那麼渺小﹖﹗') in the office's toilet in the morning, with the ang ku gui (my breakfast) still in my mouth... and i had to clear it away! =S
- i'm having a hard time negociating the prices of the on-going and sealed deals.
- we couldn't come to a conclusion to the annual sales target after a 2-hours-meeting.

well, we can't always have UPS all life long.
BUT that also means that we can't always have DOWNS all life long!
so...
tomorrow will be a BETTER DAY i'm sure! ;)

after 16 hours of torture on the military ferry, I arrived at Matsu. Blistering cold it was. 'Am I going to make it through?' I doubted, seriously.

2 more days to ORD. 'Yes I am going to make it through.'

Plenty of memories, mostly pleasant.

Last night, one of my superiors rode to my camp.

Last Sunday night, an officer came into my office and asked me to sign on a receipt.

i'm no pro in counselling.
i have no degree in counselling.
actually, i don't know what counselling is.

i met alot of 'special' people in this job.
mainly very sick people and gangsters.
very troublesome and problematic people, i must admit.

but my 'teachers', they are.
how to feel for others.
how to appreciate what i have.
how impossibles can become possibles.
these are what they've taught me, directly or indirectly.

so i want to thank them.
thank them for teaching me.
thank them for trusting me.
thank them for 'helping' me in getting this award.

*all soldiers have ranks:

- '2 stars': Lieutenant General

lunch with the Minister of Defence, the Chief Commander of the Army (3 stars), the Chief of the Political Warfare Unit (3 stars) and other officers (mainly 1 star/2 stars) from the General Headquarters.
that's why it was a 'starry starry day'...

honoured to be one of the eight representives of the Infantry Battalion at the lunch.
what an eye-opener... O_O

at least this 'trip' to this little ulu island isn't that meaningless anymore... =)

BUT we have another problem here...
a TYPHOON named 風神 is coming! (just the name itself tells you how strong it is...=S ) which means the plane might NOT fly unless the weather's good enough...=S (visibility is a key factor too!)

SO...i need a good weather and it must be fog-free! some prayers please!

i hope you'll see me online on thursday night (26/6) because that means i'm home! =D

back to the 'faraway island'...

just graduated from the political warfare training course.
a pretty interesting experience.
reasons being:

1. rooms in the military school are luxurious! (for army men that is, especially for the army men in the 'faraway islands', who live in places which look like refugee camps...=S )

2. there's a convenience store (like 7-11) next to our classroom! (when there are only THREE 7-11s on this WHOLE island...-_-")

3. this is the first time i see so many army WOMEN, like 40 out of 86 students. (i still have NO IDEA why they chose to put on that green uniform...=S )

4. i watched 4 movies during this training period. Iron Man is one of them. (yea, kind of relaxing...=D )

5. got to know many interesting and funny people! (there's a guy who used to study overseas too, in South Africa! =O )

6. we had singing sessions in class, NOT military songs but HIP songs! ('終於說出口', '世界唯一的你', 'I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing' etc.)

7. i had an IV (Intravenous Injection) in the military clinic because of fever. (that was the first in my life by the way.) it wasn't THAT serious actually. the doctor said it heals faster that way. so...
1100: fever, muscle aching, weak and tired...
1100~1630: IV
1700: playing basketball.
FASTER, INDEED...

quite an eye-opener i would say, this training course. =D

i'll be returning to Taiwan for my 2nd holiday on the 26th of June IF nothing goes wrong. so people, PLEASE PRAY FOR ME! =D

work starts again tomorrow...
plenty of things to settle...

It's been awhile...

since I last updated my blog.

this is actually my FIRST proper island break since my return to this little island...
why? let's see...

a guy whom i am in-charge of, let's call him... a guy, ok not funny. we'll call him zhang.
some facts about zhang:
- committed several crimes.
- imprisoned for 4 years and 6 months altogether since 20 years old. (now 26)
- got drunk during his first island break on the island and shouted in front of a temple, got caught by the military police.
- sent to the HQ (which is where i work) for 'intensive care'.
so, i was told to keep an eye on him so that he doesnt do silly things again.

on my 1st island break:
0800: zhang left for island break and was told to report to me on a 4-hours basis.
0830: zhang reported to me using a public phone.
0900: zhang went to a stationery shop and bought 2 sticks of super glue.
0910: zhang went to a FEMALE public toilet and started sniffing the super glue in there.
0915: zhang got too high and started shouting in there.
0920: the public reported to the police.
0930: zhang was caught by the police and sent to the military police unit.
0930: i was told he got into trouble again.
1000: i called my boss and he told me i'll be barred from island breaks for 2 weeks for failing to keep an eye on him.
1100: rushed back to the HQ to find out what exactly happened and that was the end of my 1st island break.

the verdict: zhang was imprisoned for 30days in the military prison and will probably be expelled from the army.

2nd island break: on guard duty due to the punishment. (boss still kind of mad...=S )

3rd island break: i'm released! (i think boss forgot about the punishment...=D )

the first 2 weeks after my return were really terrible... apart from the above mentioned case, work was killing me too...
i pulled through it though!
BUT, i must say that no matter how well you did in the past, it takes only ONE mistake to overshadow those achievements or to ruin one's trust in you...
i am just glad that it's almost over and i must thank all who had helped me get through these miserable two weeks! THANK YOU MY FRIENDS! x)

something i learnt from this lesson: without unhappiness, we wouldn't know what happiness is.

It's been a month since i first stepped onto this little island. Life is...
Getting better! =)

I was promoted recently, to the HQ of the whole battalion.
Mainly in charge of the emotional welfare of the army men, 5 branches, 641 soldiers.

The living conditions of the HQ are much better, for example:
- Supper (allowed to order deliveries whenever we are hungry)
- Washing machine (used to wash with hands)
- Drying machine (it takes at least 3days for the clothes to turn dry under this weather condition)
- Cleaner water (the pipes in my previous camp are rusty = yellowish water)
- Lesser things to wash after meals (used to take at least 40minutes to clean up after meal time, only 20minutes now)
- Surplus nap time (used to be 1245~1320, now 1200~1330)
- No more room checks! (i used to take about 10minutes to fold my blanket because it is supposed to look like a piece of beancurd after bedtime and the lines have to be defined. it looks like a dumpling now because i spend only a minute on it)
- More FREEDOM: can bathe anytime, use and charge HP anytime and anywhere, and the time after you finish your work = your own FREE TIME!
- Guard duties: allowed to eat, drink and sit down

Best of all...
I have my own office now and will have my own room 4 months later! x)

Well, nothing's perfect afterall...
- Insufficient food supply (no kitchen here, have to get food from one of our branches)
- Irregular sleeping hours (depends on when you finish your work)

The people...
Mostly easy going and aren't cocky, including the officers, especially my direct officer, quite a nice guy.

On a whole, i am pretty contented with my army life, for now at least.=)

First of all, Happy Chinese New Year to everyone! May you have a healthy and good year ahead!

Should anyone be wondering where I am right now, I am on an little island named 馬祖... 16 hours by the military ship, 10 hours by ferry and 45 minutes by plane, from Taipei that is. Oh, my first trip here was by the military ship. Yes, 16 hours...SIXTEEN HOURS!!! =S It was rocking like the 'Pirate Ship' for the first 2 hours (before I fell alseep), except that it wasn't rocking up and down, it was rocking UP, DOWN, LEFT and RIGHT! Madness...=S Ok, enough of the ship, I feel like vomitting liao...haha! Oh! I didn't vomit by the way...*proud* =D

Life on this island...
Our (Recruits aka '菜'兵) main duties:
1. Wash dishes
2. Carry stuffs
3. Guard duties

During the Island Break (once every week, we get to leave the camp and tour the island):
1. Cyber Cafe
2. Pool
3. Library
4. Sightseeing (you can actually tour the island within half a day's time, by feet that is...yes, that's how small this island is...)

Ok la, this island is a little more advanced, got 7-11 some more, THREE of them! =D

Oh, something about this island: 好山, 好水, 好無聊...
Indeed...

Due to the lack of resources, things on this island are SUPER expensive...
So, in order to maximize incomes, it's not surprising to see 'multi-purposes shops' on this island: cyber cafes with pool tables, providing meal and laundry services (they can sew and repair your clothes too) and selling basic necessities at the same time. Oh, the shopkeepers stay there too...-_-"

Life here is very different from what I have experienced before, a once in a lifetime experience I would say...
Well, all I am asking for is nothing but to safely complete my service...
10 more months to go!

first of all, i must thank all those who still make an effort to tag the tagboard even though this blog has been stagnant for such a long time...OOPS! =P

ok i admit, i was simply TOO LAZY to update...
as i had expected when i first started it. OOPS again!

well there is definitely a reason why i am here...
i am finally going to serve the nation!
like FINALLY really...(for those who know me, i know i've been talking about this since ages ago...hahaha!)

the official date is 19th december 2007 (a date i should never forget, right jiadi? hahaha!),
7.30a.m. at Taipei Main Station, South Gate 1.

i was quite panicky when i first got the news because i am the FIRST to be enlisted in the whole family, my generation of course.
and i have no friend here who is in the army as well, so no experience shared either.
conclusion: i dont know what to expect...panicky panicky!

but at this moment,
i dont have much feelings about it anymore.
or maybe no time to think about it.
plenty of work to be completed before the enlistment, wrong time to come really, this thing.
been working OTs these days, finally could understand how daph felt when she left her office at 11pm+...=S

on a lighter note,
i am really thankful to have my family and friends, who wished and 'celebrated' for me! (i dont see a need to 'celebrate' actually, i dont feel a tinge of happiness about the enlistment...)

nevertheless, we celebrated!

KTV session with family (age 7~65, yea 65, i have a HIP grandma who goes to KTV and midnight movies with us! xD )

though i knew dad got this award before too, it's only till today that i know how much he has achieved.

wealth and status apart, the level of achievements he's got is considered to be as much as people like the founder of acer computer, the singer A-Mei, the best tennis player in Taiwan who won the 1st runner-up in the US Open Women's Doubles recently etc...

and i thought getting this prestigious award at the age of 31 is really something remarkable.

梧提颱風逼近台灣，恐怕從台灣東部登陸，類似這樣從東部登陸的颱風，像是賀伯颱風，還有泰利颱風，當年都曾重創台灣！雖然目前梧提還只是個輕度颱風，按照行徑路線來看，東台灣和北部的民眾都不能掉以輕心。

not because it's painful, but irritating..

tried all means.
according to..
1. mum: drink more salt water la..damn effective wan.
action taken: drank salt water like plain water.
result: sorethroat.

2. dad: doctor said dont drink salt water, no good for body. rinse throat with very salty water. doctor say wan, better listen.
action taken: rinsed throat whenever i am free or bored.
result: sorethroat still.

3. dad: no use ah? nvm, doctor gave me this tablet, dissolve it in a cup of water then drink it. damn effective, that time i drank once recovered le.
action taken: dissolved the tablet in a cup of water, a very smelly drink, and drank it.
result: sorethroat still. getting very smug, that sorethroat.. (omg such a big word, cannot take it. source: xf)

then i..
1. ate lozenges like eat rice, never give chance wan.
result: sorethroat. road to winning the title, MIS - Most Irritating Sorethroat

2. sprayed 西瓜霜 into the throat until the whole throat is covered with 西瓜霜.. (sounds gross..)
result: haha, guess what, sorethroat still..

any other suggestions??
maybe i should go to YAHOO! ANSWERS..

wasnt a fantastic match but it was a good win.

gerrard was outstanding as usual, scoring a spectacular top-corner goal. benayoun's performance was first-class too.

looking forward to sunday's game.

today isnt some great day actually, it's just a day better than yesterday.

decided to work out abit because i havent been exercising..=S
went to play basketball. 整個很熱血..

clear signs of a lack of exercise:
1. panting like a dog after 2 games, which lasted for 15 minutes. er, only.
2. hands and leg not really cooperative, kind of heavy, they.
3. stopped playing after 1hour+. er, only, again, yah.
4. muscle aching right now..

according to dad 2007 has been the most happening year in his career.
because he met the best and the worst clients he has ever met in his entire life.
best: Thai client
worst: Indonesian client

yep, we met the worst client ever today..

frankly speaking they are not that bad actually, afterall they are just doing their jobs as advisers to the company.
furthermore, we screwed up too because of some miscommunication with our manufacturer.

so i was left alone to explain to both the clients and the manufacturer about the misunderstandings.
thats the tough thing about this job you see, you have to please both the buyer AND the SELLER, like have to 低聲下氣 and plead even you are BUYING things from someone.
i.e. don (to manufacturer): 'PLEASE SELL ME THE MACHINES! I BEG YOUU.. PLEEEEASE...'
*pulls manufacturer's leg, crying, as manufacturer drags don on the ground* (真是愛演..-_-")

ok, at least i managed to convince the manufacturer today.
next battle player: Indonesian clients (oh they are Japanese by the way)

thank you for listening to me complain if you manage to finish reading this entry without feeling bored..

getting very restless at work everyday..

no drive.

nothing much to do at work.
dad asked me to stop marketing because he doesnt want to be bothered too much when i am in army.

so i decided to fix the doors, which have been spoilt for dont know how many years le..-_-"
the doors drove me mad eventually.
not easy seriously.
got them done though.
after like 4hours?
fortunately i dont aspire to be a carpenter. (do carpenters do that?? o_O)

saw the little basketball on my bed when i got home.
decided to get the hoop done too. (心血來潮中..)
now i can SHOOT in my room! (eh your head no good, 想yy..if you know what i am talking about. xD )

meeting the Indonesian clients tomorrow.
hopefully everything will go smoothly..

she's very happy today! =)
because she finally saw my dad, after 10months..

money is not the most important thing to them, it matters though.
care is what they need most.

10am: draw lots for the enlistment
result: 陸軍
mood: relieved.
remarks: was praying really hard not to get 海軍陸戰隊, from the name you know how xiong it can get..-_-")

11am - 1pm: trying to settle all my work before going to a client's place
result: failed
mood: sian..
remarks: the technician who came to repair the photocopying machine almost fainted before it was too hot. he has a heart problem. at that moment..
mum: extremely nervous. damn scared the technician will faint in the office.
dad: extremely calm, trying to explain to the technician what he should do the next time he experiences such problem.
me: laughing away. at how nervous my mum was and how calm my dad was. xD

1pm - 5pm: filming at a client's place
result: failed once again
mood: frustrated
remarks: ended up doing maintenance for the client's machine, during which many problems surfaced. frustrated once again.

5pm - 9pm: settle all the work in hand
result: succeeded, finally..
mood: tired (or rather feeling?)
remarks: hungry..

10pm - 2am: packing
result: succeeded, after 4hours..
mood/feeling: exhausted.
remarks: havent bathed. 8.30am flight, waking up at 5am. nice.

watched this movie today. very inspirational.

the movie title itself is very meaningful i thought. 'Pay It Forward'
whenever someone do us a favour, the first thing that comes to our minds would be, 'how should i pay him/her back?' but very seldom or never will we think of 'how should i pay it forward?', and share the joy of 'being helped by someone' with another person, which i think, would be a happier thing, simply because instead of only you and me being happy, it'll be you, me, him/her, or even them!
